Debt Consolidation
For the millions of people struggling with debt, finding the right information and help can be a daunting task. In order to address this problem Star Ventures, a venture creation company based in Texas started DebtConsolidation.com as an information hub dealing with all aspects of debt.
An important point to note is that DebtConsolidation does not provide any debt services on its own. The website is a way to connect people looking for debt relief with companies that can provide these services. The signup page is linked to the website of CareOne, which also provides debt relief services.
The DebtConsolidation website has a very clean and uncluttered appearance and provides all the vital information as clear links on the homepage. As compared to other debt relief websites, there is a lack of visual elements and nearly the whole site is text based. A toll free number is provided but there are no other means of communication such as email or chat.
DebtConsolidation claims to provide all necessary information and tools for the millions struggling with the burden of debt. The website outlines the various processes and provides information on options available to an individual such as:
- Debt consolidation
- Credit counseling
- Debt settlement
- Bankruptcy
DebtConsolidation claims are not delivered upon as the page for the debt calculators does not provide any such tool or give links to where they could be found.
One useful resource provided by DebtConsolidation is a listing of articles which are aimed towards helping people get relief from their debt and learn of ways to avoid debt in the future. One of the articles highlights how debt can be avoided by a few simple money saving techniques such as a monthly budgeting and reduced energy use. The article also highlights how cutting back on non-essential activities such as dinning out and entertainment and replacing them with cheaper alternatives can leave you with extra money in your pocket at the end of the month.
Another article deals with the benefits of debt consolidation as opposed to declaring bankruptcy. It highlights the problems and long term effects bankruptcy can have such as:
- Seizure of property
- Hefty lawyer fees
- Negative impact on credit rating for over 7 years
The advantages of debt consolidation are highlighted such as:
- Lower monthly payments
- Rebuilding of your credit score
Other articles deals with topics like creating a monthly budget and finding a good debt relief company.
DebtConsolidation also provides a news section which claims to be updated with the latest developments in the debt industry. Upon closer inspection it is easy to see that majority of the news items on the website are from 2008 or earlier. This does not build a sense of confidence for the company and gives the feeling of false promises. Between the news links visitors will be confused to find links to sites such as How Stuff Works, The Association of Settlement Companies and Bankruptcy Courts, which would be better listed under a resources link. This mixing of content again does not bode well for DebtConsolidation as it gives a less than professional feel to the website.
Another resource provided is a debt blog. While a blog can be a tremendously helpful tool, the DebtConsolidation blog falls short of the mark. While it does feature some useful articles such as how to save money and balance your checkbook, a number of the blog entries are the same content found in the article pages while others abruptly cut off in the middle of the entry.
Reviews and evaluation of any company, like this one are solely for the purpose of education. They should not be the only basis of decision when choosing a company to work with. All decisions should be based on extensive personal research and interaction with the company.
At first glance, DebtConsolidation seems to be a perfect resource for people who struggle every day with their debt. They claim to provide all the tools and information required but are unable to deliver on that promise. A number of aspects such as the lack of communication options and content repetition can shake the confidence visitors will have in the site.
